Jesus Maria Zamora

Legend of Real Sociedad, Zamora chose to play his entire career for the San Sebastian club. He was the playmaker of the team and his style of play was characterized by high quality vision and a great technique. He was a complete and useful player for all facets of the game. He was one of the leaders of the best team that Real Sociedad has had in its history with players such as Arconada, Satrústegui, López Ufarte and Bakero. Together they achieved several successes, starting with the 1979-80 League runner-up (with an unbeaten record in the Spanish League still in force), the two consecutive Leagues in 1981 and 1982, the 1982 Spanish Super Cup, the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1983 and the Copa del Rey in 1987. On a personal level, Zamora is remembered by the San Sebastian fans as the scorer of the goal that was worth the 1981 League title in extremis. Zamora retired in 1989 after 14 seasons and 588 official matches with Real Sociedad. He represented his country in the UEFA Euro 1980 and the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. During the World Cup in Spain, he played 4 matches and scored a superb header goal to goalkeeper Harold Schumacher of Germany in a match of the second round, considered one of the most beautiful goals of the tournament. With Spain he played a total of 30 games and scoring 3 goals.
