Enrique Morán

Enrique Morán Blanco was a striker who had success in Spain in the late seventies and early eighties. He made his name at Sporting Gijon, where he was a key player of the team that reached the second place in the 1979/79 LaLiga. In the summer of 1979, he moved to Betis, where he played two seasons, probably the best of his career. At that time, Morán even played 5 games for the Spanish national team. After scoring 30 league goals in two seasons, he was signed by Barcelona. With the Blaugrana he played a good first season (27 appearances and 7 goals) but in the following ones he found less space in the starting 11. In 1984 he accepted Atletico Madrid’s offer but despite a Copa del Rey won, and a second place in the league, Morán played 15 games and scored only 2 goals. After just one season he moved to Talavera in Segunda Division B, where he ended his career.

Julio Alberto

A Spanish left back known for his speed and technique, Julio Alberto began his career with Atletico Madrid, where he played four seasons from 1977/78 to 1981/82. During those years he was unable to win any title, but he stood out individually as one of the most talented players in La Liga. In the summer of 1982 he signed for F.C. Barcelona. With the catalans he won 2 Liga, 3 Copa del Rey, 1 Supercopa de España, 2 Copa de la Liga and the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989. He also was three times runner-up in the Copa del Rey and one time in the European Cup in 1986 (lost in the final against Steaua Bucharest) where Julio Alberto played an excellent tournament. One of the most important moment of his career is the goal he scored against Juventus at the Camp Nou, with a strong kick from the distance, in the first leg of the quarterfinals. That goal was decisive for the qualification in the semifinals. With Spain, he was part of the squad in the 1984 European Championship, where he played 5 games and reached the final, lost against France, then in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he played 3 games and reached the quarter-finals.

Periko Alonso was a fighting defensive midfielder, gifted with a great shot that allowed him to score many goals throughout his career. He was a key player of Real Sociedad that was Liga runner-up in 1980 and won 2 league titles in 1981 and 1982. With teammates like Arconada, Zamora, López Ufarte and Satrústegui, he formed the most brilliant generation in the history of Real Sociedad. José Mari Bakero

Bakero was one of the best European midfielder during 80s and 90s. He was known for his dynamism, passing and scoring ability (with both feet and with his head, despite his short stature) and for his great leadership skills. He began his career with Real Sociedad in 1980. With the San Sebastian team he debuted in the first division at 17 and, for 8 years, he was part of the mythical team (with Arconada, Zamora, Satrústegui, Lopez Ufarte…) that won two Liga in 1981 and 1982. In 1988, he signed for Johan Cruyff’s Barcelona, one of the best teams in history, later called “Dream Team”, that for four years totally dominated Spanish football and played five European finals. Between 1988 and 1997 he played 329 games in 9 seasons. With Blaugrana he won 4 Liga, the European Cup in 1992, the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989 and 1997, the European Super Cup in 1993 and 3 Copa del Rey. In 1997 he moved to Mexico to play for Veracruz, where he ended his career. Bakero represented his country at the UEFA Euro 1988 (3 games, group stage) and two FIFA World Cups in 1990 (1 game, round of 16) and 1994 (4 games, quarter finals).
