Periko Alonso was a fighting defensive midfielder, gifted with a great shot that allowed him to score many goals throughout his career. He was a key player of Real Sociedad that was Liga runner-up in 1980 and won 2 league titles in 1981 and 1982. With teammates like Arconada, Zamora, López Ufarte and Satrústegui, he formed the most brilliant generation in the history of Real Sociedad. In 1982 he moved to Barcelona where he spent 3 seasons and won a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Super Cup. With the arrival of Terry Venables, he barely played in his last season with the Catalans. He won another Liga but his contribution was limited to only 2 games. In 1985, he moved to Sabadell in the socond division. As leader of the side, he won a promotion in the first division and ended his career in 1988. He represented his country in the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain, where he played 5 games and reached the second round. Totally he played 20 games and scored 1 goal with Spain.
