Danny Wallace

Small, compact and explosive winger, Danny Wallace was a legend of Southampton during 80s. He made his debut (taking the place of the injured Kevin Keegan) aged only 16 years in November 1980 at Old Trafford, thus becoming the youngest player to be picked for Southampton – a record that would remain unbroken until Theo Walcott made his debut 25 years later. In 1983/84, probably his best season, Southampton reached second place behind Liverpool. In all, he made 317 appearances, scoring 79 goals with the Saints.

In September 1989 he moved to Manchester United for £1.2 million, then a record fee for a Southampton player. He played three seasons and half with Red Devils, winning the 1990 FA Cup and the 1991 Cup Winners’ Cup (but didn’t play in the final). He finished his career playing for Milwall, Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers. He also played one match for England in 1986 and won the 1984 UEFA Euro U21.

Gerry Daly

Gerry Daly started his professional career with Irish side Bohemians, for whom he scored in the UEFA Cup away to Köln in September 1972. In 1973 he moved to Manchester United. In his first season, the team was relegated but gained an instant return to the top flight with Daly being a key player. With Red Devils, Daly reached the 1976 FA Cup Final then was sold to Derby County in 1977 where he remained until 1980. During his time with Derby, Daly spent time on loan with the NASL side New England Tea Men in 1978 and 1979. He was included two time in the NASL All-Star. Following Derby’s relegation in 1980, he signed for Coventry City, with whom he spent four seasons, including a spell on loan to Leicester City in 1982. He then spent a season at Birmingham City before signing for Shrewsbury Town in October 1985. Daly also played for Stoke City, Doncaster Rovers and Telford United where he ended his career. Gerry Daly also represented Ireland from 1973 till 1986, earning 48 caps.
